Christian marriage is a holy covenant made before God, binding two lives together in love, faith, and mutual support. St. John United Methodist Church is honored to help you prepare for a beautiful wedding ceremony and a lifetime of shared devotion.

Please review our guidelines and reservation timelines below to begin your journey.

Choose Your Wedding Style

Please select your preferred wedding style on your application form:

  • Simple Wedding: Includes Principal Sponsors only (no secondary sponsors or bridal entourage).
  • Elaborate / Complete Wedding: Includes Principal and Secondary Sponsors, as well as a full bridal entourage.

Pre-Wedding Timeline (At least 2 weeks before)

The following requirements must be completed and submitted at least two (2) weeks before your wedding date:

  • Legal Documents: Submit your official Marriage License and CENOMAR (Certificate of No Marriage).
  • Sponsor List: Submit your finalized List of Principal Sponsors (can be sent via email).
  • Marriage Counseling: Attend the required preparation session(s) with the Minister.
  • Financial Obligations: Settle all wedding fees at the church office.

Note: Total fees vary depending on your chosen wedding style and venue.

Ceremony Materials (1 day before)

After consulting with the Officiating Minister, please bring these materials to the church one day prior to the wedding:

  • Two (2) Altar Candles & Two (2) Nuptial Candles
  • One (1) Large Christ Candle (to symbolize the light of Christ in your union)
  • Wedding Liturgy: The official printed copy of the service.

Vendor & Music Guidelines

  • Sanctuary Decor: The couple is responsible for hiring an independent florist to decorate the church.
  • Guest Liturgies: Please provide printed photocopy copies of the wedding liturgy for your guests and visitors.
  • Music Options:
    • Hire a soloist with their own accompaniment track.
    • Hired a live musical band with their own musical instruments.
    • You may use a curated playlist from a music streaming platform (such as Spotify or Apple Music) to be played through the church sound system. Please coordinate the specific tracks with our sound technician beforehand.

Important Church Policies

  • Ministerial Love Gift: Arrangements and discussions regarding the love gift should be handled directly with your Officiating Minister(s).
  • Church Property: To protect and maintain our musical instruments, the church piano is strictly restricted and may only be played by the official SJUMC pianist.
